Calling all bookworms! Some of our favorite moments involve stealing a few quiet moments curled up with a good book… with a bountiful bouquet on the table next to us. This CSA pairs 20 glorious weeks of gorgeous Treehorn bouquets with four books written by authors who challenge how we think about the natural world.
- Flowers: You'll receive 20 weeks of bouquets that may include sweetpeas, ranunculus, anemones, snapdragons, dahlias, zinnias, sunflowers, gorgeous annuals — as well as fillers such as seed pods, berries, and various herbs and grasses. Our bouquets are wrapped in craft paper.
- Books: Your CSA comes with four books (1 approximately every month). The books are focused on our relationship to the natural world and are written by authors living locally or on the Eastern Seaboard who have dedicated their careers to better understanding plants and ecosystems.
- Self-Guided Bookclub and Virtual Meeting Space: Every week, you'll be given a QR code/link to a digital landing page that provides a few questions to consider as you read as well as writing prompts. You’ll then be invited to leave some of your thoughts in the comments section of an Instagram post, which will serve as the space for our virtual, self-guided bookclub (the conversation will be moderated by Melissa).
- Events: With this CSA, you'll be the first to receive an invite to an exclusive ticketed summer author event moderated by Melissa (venue TBD — either in Climax or Coxsackie, NY). And you’ll be added to the list to receive invitations to other Treehorn-hosted (or co-hosted) events in the Climax/Coxsackie, NY area.
Wait... but isn't Melissa just a farmer?
Nope. We wear many hats over at Treehorn Farm! In addition to being a farmer, mother, and just all ‘round swell gal, Melissa is also a journalist, writer, author, and educator who has placed work in many publications, including CNN, the BBC, and The Washington Post. She founded a nonprofit that offered journalism training for youth and women around the world, with a focus on climate change and gender equality. And she has spent a portion of her career traveling between France and the U.S. as a storyteller for companies that focused on sustainable investing and curing cancer as well as telling stories about French culture, food, and wine in partnership with many French tourism boards. She also had a history as an artist and art historian — and she's proudly autistic, a neurotype that informs her entire worldview.

Liablity Waiver
By purchasing this CSA, you acknowledge that you have read and understood the following bullet points and that you waive Treehorn Farm from all libaility from:
- Your share in the risks of farming. This includes the possibility of certain types of flowers potentially being unavailable for the season or even (highly unlikely!) the event of catastrophic crop loss due to unfavorable weather, pests, or natural disasters.
- Toxicity. The vast majority of our flowers aren't meant for consumption, but they aren't poisonous. We do, however, grow sweetpeas, which are highly toxic if ingested by humans or animals. You assume all responsibility for accepting our bouquets containing sweetpeas — please let us know if you have children and we can exchange them for a non-toxic flower!
- Responsibility for any damage to bouquets that are not brought inside or cared for according to our instructions in a timely manner.
- Unclaimed shares. Members may not receive a refund or credit for unclaimed flowers — but if you will be away a week you can send us an email in advance and have someone else pick up your bouquet!
